Giving Back
As a major tourist destination and the caretaker of a host of artefacts pertaining to the history of this part of the Miramichi, the Atlantic Salmon Museum plays an important role in the cultural and economic life of the Doaktown community. As such, we recognize and value the contributions made by area residents to our success and, over the years, have done our best to “give back.”
We share the profits from our weekly Salmon Museum and Friends Lottery with various other non-profit groups in the Doaktown-Boiestown community. Over the years, our “Friends” have included the Boiestown-Doaktown Minor Hockey Association, the Central New Brunswick Nursing Home, the Doaktown Community Garden, the Doaktown Volunteer Fire Department, and the Food Programs offered by schools in both Boiestown and Doaktown.
We are major participants in Doaktown’s annual Salmon and Fiddlehead Festivals and have supported our local Legion branch in the acquisition of commemorative Remembrance Day banners. We regularly employ between 4-6 high school and university students during the summer months and provide bursaries of $1,000 each to qualified graduates from North and South Esk Regional School, Blackville School, and the Central New Brunswick Academy. For more information on these bursaries, check this website or call the Museum at 506-365-7787.
